Recommendation

Each individual Key Stakeholder should be responsible for reducing or avoiding emissions within their area of responsibility. The Commission for a Sustainable London 2012 has a responsibility to assure this activity.

Complete

The ODA and LOCOG demonstrated plans and initiatives to address their carbon footprints. For Games-time LOCOG prepared an energy conservation plan following recommendations by the Commission. This was delivered late, which reduced the effectiveness of some measures and LOCOG the Olympic Broadcast Service did not effectively engage with energy saving measures. However, actions were taken to reduce the Games-time carbon footprint. The GLA (City Operations) developed ways of calculating and addressing the carbon emissions associated with their plans. The LLDC has developed sustainability plans for legacy including targets for carbon reduction and these are covered by other Commission recommendations. Complete

Progress Made

The ODA and LOCOG have demonstrated plans or initiatives to tackle their carbon footprints where this is still possible. The ODA set targets for embodied carbon in their temporary venues (Basketball Arena, Shooting venue). LOCOG is hiring equipment wherever possible to avoid the need for purchasing new items. LOCOG has initiatives around energy use and are finalising an energy conservation plan following recommendations by the Commission but we are concerned that it has been delivered too late for some of the proposed actions to be taken. The GLA (City Ops) are investigating ways of calculating and addressing the carbon emissions associated with their plans. It is not clear how this was applied to the Orbit. The LLDC is developing its sustainability plans for legacy including targets for carbon reduction. Progress Made

Progress Made

The ODA and LOCOG have demonstrated plans to tackle their carbon footprints where this is still possible. The ODA have set targets for embodied carbon in temporary venues. The GLA (City Ops) are currently determining how they will address the carbon emissions associated with their plans. It is not clear how this was applied to the Orbit. The OPLC is developing its sustainability plans for legacy and we expect carbon to be an important part of these. Progress Made
